Digital Communications with Chaos: Multiple Access Techniques and Performance

Digital Communications with Chaos: Multiple Access Techniques and Performance

Product Description
Since the 1970’s, there has been a great deal of research effort spent on studying
chaotic systems and the properties of the chaotic signals generated. Characterized by their wideband, impulse-like autocorrelation and low cross-correlation properties, chaotic signals are useful spread-spectrum signals for carrying digital information. Spectrum spreading has become one of the most popular modulation techniques for high-speed wireless communications.
It makes use of signals of very wide bandwidth to carry information at relatively low data rates, and possesses advantages such as low probability of interception, resistance to jamming, multiple-access capability and mitigation to multipath effect, which are particularly important in a wireless scenario. In addition to enjoying the aforementioned benefits, chaotic signals can be generated using simple circuitries, thus lowering the cost of transceivers.

Early study of chaos-based communication systems was focused on a single-user case. In the past few years, more effort has been put on investigating systems with multiple-access capability, which is a key feature of spread-spectrum communication systems. This book presents a detailed study of some multiple-access schemes used for chaos-based communications, and evaluates their performance. In addition, the effectiveness of the multiuser detection techniques, whose primary objective is to reduce interference between users and hence improve performance, is evaluated in the context of multiple-access digital communication systems.

* Hot research topic
* Describes communication technologies for the future
* Authors among the pioneers researching in chaos-based communications

Performance Analysis of Communications Networks and Systems

Performance Analysis of Communications Networks and Systems

Product Description
This rigorous and self-contained book describes mathematical and, in particular, stochastic methods to assess the performance of networked systems. It consists of three parts. Part one is a review of probability theory. Part two covers the classical theory of stochastic processes (Poisson, renewal, Markov, and queuing theory), which are considered to be the basic building blocks for performance evaluation studies. Part three focuses on the relatively new field of the physics of networks. This part deals with the recently obtained insights that many very different large complex networks – such as the Internet, World Wide Web, proteins, utility infrastructures, social networks – evolve and behave according to more general common scaling laws. This understanding is useful when assessing the end-to-end quality of communications services, for example, in Internet telephony, real-time video, and interacting games. Containing problems and solutions, this book is ideal for graduate students taking courses in performance analysis

Network-Aware Security for Group Communications

Network-Aware Security for Group Communications

Product Description
Group-oriented communications will play a significant role in the next generation of networks as many services, such as pay-per-view media broadcasts and the delivery of network control messages, will rely upon the ability to reliably deliver data simultaneously to a large group of users. As these networks become increasingly pervasive and these multi-user services become increasingly ubiquitous, it will become essential that a complementary suite of security solutions are deployed in order to protect these services from a broad spectrum of security threats that are unique to group communications. This book aims to fill a growing need in the research community for a reference that describes the state of the art in securing group communications. “Network-Aware Security for Group Communications” focuses on tailoring the security solution to the underlying network architecture (such as the wireless cellular network or the ad hoc/sensor network), or to the application using the security methods (such as multimedia multicasts).

Coding for Data and Computer Communications

Coding for Data and Computer Communications

Product Description
Coding is an highly integral component of viable and efficient computer and data communications, yet the often heavy mathematics that form the basis of coding can prevent a serious and practical understanding of this important area. “Coding for Data and Computer Communications” eschews the complex mathematics and clearly describes the core concepts, principles, and methods of channel codes ( for error correction), source codes (for compressing data), and secure codes (for cryptography, data hiding, and privacy). Conveniently organized and segmented into three associated parts for these coding types, the book examines the most important approaches and techniques used to make the storage and transmission of information (data) fast, secure, and reliable. Topics and features: *Integrates the disciplines of error control, data compression, and cryptography and data hiding *Presents material in a logical, clear, and lively way for rapid learning *Highly inclusive, balanced coverage for specialists and nonspecialists *Contains a chapter on the rarely covered topic of check digits *Provides numerous examples, illustrations, and other helpful learning aids An essential resource and monograph for all security researchers and professionals who need to understand and effectively use coding employed in computers and data communications. Anchored by a clear, nonmathematical exposition, the book presents all the major topics, principles, and methods in an accessible style suitable for professional specialists, nonspecialists, students, and individual self-study.

About the Author
David Salomon is retired professor emeritus of computer science from California State University, Northridge. He is author of numerous articles and books, including Data Compression, Third Edition, Guide to Data Compression Methods, and Data Privacy and Security.
