Compilation Techniques for Reconfigurable Architectures
Compilation Techniques for Reconfigurable Architectures

Product Description
This book describes a wide range of code transformations and mapping techniques for compiling programs written in high-levelprogramming languages to reconfigurable architectures. While many of these transformations and mapping techniques have been developed in the context of compilation for traditional architectures and high-level synthesis, their application to reconfigurable architectures poses a whole new set of challenges – particularly when targeting fine-grained reconfigurable architectures such as contemporary Field-Programmable Gate-Arrays (FPGAs).Organized in eight chapters, this book provides a helpful structure for practitioners and graduate students in the area of computer science and electrical and computer engineering to effectively map computations to reconfigurable architectures. This book introduces the reader to hardware compilation and reconfigurable computingarchitectures. It presents a range of compiler code transformations and mapping techniques focusing on imperative programming languages. It allows the reader to bridge the gap between the software compilation and the hardware compilation and synthesisdomains. It brings a number of compilation techniques together into one structured source, and includes representative examples of their applications. It provides a historical perspective on representative compilation research efforts over the last 15 years.

The Architecture of Modern Italy: Volume I

The Architecture of Modern Italy: Volume I

Product Description
This groundbreaking and authoritative two-volume survey is the first truly comprehensive history of modern Italian architecture and urbanism to appear in any language. Told in lively prose, it recounts more than 250 years of experimentation, creativity, and turmoil that have shaped the landscape of contemporary Italy. Volume I: The Challenge of Tradition, 1750-1900, explores the dynamic balancing of forces demanded by a reverence for Italy’s unparalleled architectural patrimony and a desire for new means of expression and technological innovation. From the neoclassical fantasies of Giovanni Battista Piranesi to the spectacular steeland-glass gallerias of Milan and Naples, it reveals an underappreciated history of richness and complexity. The Architecture of Modern Italy is exhaustively illustrated with rare period images, new photography, maps, drawings, and plans. With Colin Rowe’s Italian Architecture of the 16th Century, it provides a nearly complete overview of the history of Italian architecture.

Volume II: Visions of Utopia, 1900-Present, tracks the development of Italy’s architectural avant-garde through the upheavals of the twentieth century. Beginning with the development of Italian art nouveau – “stile liberty” – and moving through futurism, fascism, rationalism, and on to the creative experimentation of the present day, it explores the work of such pivotal figures as Raimondo d’Aronco, Antonio Sant’Elia, Adalberto Libera, Giuseppe Terragni, Pier Luigi Nervi, Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa, Aldo Rossi, and Renzo Piano. The Architecture of Modern Italy is exhaustively illustrated with rare period images, new photography, maps, drawings, and plans. Advanced FPGA Design: Architecture, Implementation, and Optimization

Product Description
This book provides the advanced issues of FPGA design as the underlying theme of the work. In practice, an engineer typically needs to be mentored for several years before these principles are appropriately utilized. Requirements Modelling and Specification for Service Oriented Architecture

Product Description
Many software developers often confuse requirements engineering with software specification and, as a result, build unusable systems, despite meeting specifications. Bringing together all the techniques needed by the modern software developer, here is a practical handbook to requirements engineering and systems specification for developers building systems within a service oriented architecture. It introduces the concepts of SOA and relevant standards and technology, such as Web services and ESBs, and then presents a range of modern requirements engineering techniques.

Innovations in Design & Decision Support Systems in Architecture and Urban Planning

Product Description
Traditionally, the DDSS conferences aim to be a platform for both starting and experienced researchers who focus on the development and application of computer support in the areas of urban planning and architectural design. This results in an interesting mix of well-established research projects and first explorations. It also leads to a very valuable cross-over of theories, methods, and technologies for support systems in the two different areas, architecture and urban planning. This volume contains 31 peer reviewed papers from this year’s conference that are organised into seven sections: Land Use Simulation and Visualisation, Multi-Agent Models for Movement Simulation, Multi-Agent Models for Urban Development, Managing and Deploying Design Knowledge, Urban Decision-Making, Design Interactivity and Design Automation, and Virtual Environments and Augmented Reality. This book will bring researchers together and is a valuable resource for their continuous joint effort to improve the design and planning of our environment.

Sustainable Design: Ecology, Architecture, and Planning

Sustainable Design: Ecology, Architecture, and Planning

Product Description
Meeting the Challenge of Sustainable Design

“Daniel Williams’s Sustainable Design is . . . a thoroughly practical call for the design professions to take the next steps toward transformation of the human prospect toward a future that is sustainable and sustaining of the best in human life lived in partnership not domination.”

–From the Foreword by David W. Orr, the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics and Chair of the Environmental Studies Program at Oberlin College

“In this pioneering book, Daniel Williams provides the sort of intelligent, thoughtful, experienced insights that–if followed–will ensure that we make the right choices. It should be on the desk of every architect in the world.”
–Denis Hayes, president and CEO of the Bullitt Foundation and coordinator of the first Earth Day in 1970

Architects identify “sustainability” as the most important change in the future of their profession. Sustainable Design: Ecology, Architecture, and Planning is a practical, comprehensive guide to design and plan a built environment compatible with the region’s economic, social, and ecological patterns.

In this book, Daniel Williams challenges professionals to rethink architecture and to see their projects not as objects but as critical, connected pieces of the whole, essential to human health as well as to regional economy and ecology. Comprehensive in scope, Sustainable Design answers key questions such as:
*

How do I begin thinking and designing ecologically?
*

What is the difference between “green design” and “sustainable design”?
*

What are some examples of effective change I can make that will have the most impact for the least cost?

Written for architects, planners, landscape architects, engineers, public officials, and change agent professionals, this important resource defines the issues of sustainable design, illustrates conceptual and case studies, and provides support for continued learning in this increasingly central focus of architects’ and urban planners’ work.

Williams’s book features winning projects from the first decade of the AIA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten award program.
